At the Rotary Club of Bennettsville meeting on June 23, 2009, Club President Dr. David Johnson presented a check to Ken Harmon, Director of the Junior Leadership Bennettsville program to aid in the project for the coming school year. The Junior Leadership Bennettsville program is a project for seniors at the Marlboro Academy and the Marlboro County High School to teach the students about the history and heritage of Bennettsville and Marlboro County and to give them leadership skills to aid in their future endeavors. The funds from the Rotary Club are the result of the Club's annual BBQ and Auction held each spring. The Club gave over $10,000 to various organizations this year.
The 2009-2010 Leadership Bennettsville project is now registering participants to begin classes on May 21, 2009.
Leadership Bennettsville is an initiative sponsored by the City of Bennettsville and the Bennettsville Downtown Development Association (BDDA). Class members must either live in Marlboro County or work in the county. Classes are held once each month, for eleven months, on the third Thursday from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. A brochure is available outling the classes. This will be the sixth year for this project which has received rave revues from participants.
Cost for the entire year is only $130.00. This fee includes two meals each meeting day and all materials. If you would like to talk to previous enrollees, names will be furnished. For further information, please call Ken Harmon at 843/479-3869 or visit him in the BDDA offices in the Bennettsville Visitor Center, 304 West Main Street in Bennettsville.
